The Telemedicine Center of Vlora is located on the 5-th floor of the Vlora Regional Hospital. It has a relevant space which includes the auditorium and the electronic library.
The auditorium is equipped with the state of the art technology which allows this building to connect with the entire Telemedicine network. This room can accommodate up to 40 participants. Also the electronic library is connected with the Telemedicine network. Its main function is to help the medical staff to access the medical jurnals and books through online resources which is an impornant component for the promotion of research activities and patient care through access to the most contemporary research findings. Due to its high network quality it has also been used for Teleconsults, and Medical imaging transfers with the National Telemedicine Centers.
The Opening Ceremony for the Regional Telemedicine Centers of Vlora was held on May 13th, 2014. The Opening was made possible by funding from the US Army Corps of Engineers. The ceremony was held at the Regiona l hospital of Vlora and virtually in Korca and Gjirokastra. Those in attendance were the Ambassador of US to Albania, H.E. Alexander Arvizu, the Minister of Health, Mr. Ilir Beqja, MAJ Kristopher Mitchell, US Army Corps of Engineers, Prof. Rifat Latifi, President of IVeH, and regional health directors.
The Coordinator for the Telemedicine Center of Vlora is Dr. Engjell Lazaj. Dr. Lazaj has been working for the Vlora Regional Hospital since 1997. He graduatet for General Medicine in 1990, and finished his qualification for Anesthetist/Reanimator. Dr. Lazaj also took part in the telemedicine leadership and training events like:
